Form 1040 Series Business Rules and Schema Now Available

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced the availability of the Form 1040 Series Business Rules and Schema for the Tax Year 2023/Processing Year 2024. This includes the Form 1040 Series 2023v5.0 and Form 9465 CUv26.0.

Who Can Access the Form 1040 Series Business Rules and Schema?

Software Developers, Return Transmitters, Authorized IRS e-File Providers/EROs, and State organizations are eligible to download the Modernized e-File (MeF) schemas and business rules. However, to access these files, there are certain requirements that must be met:

– You need to have an active e-Services account
– You must have an e-File application with the Software Developer or State provider option. The associated tax type must be 1040, 2350, 4868, 56, or 9465.

How to Access the Form 1040 Series Business Rules and Schema?

You can download the Modernized e-File (MeF) schemas and business rules from your e-Services mailbox. For more information about MeF Schemas and Business Rules, please visit the Modernized e-File (MeF) Schemas and Business Rules page on IRS.gov.

Please note that there may be several messages in your account. Ensure you open all of them to find the set you would like to download. After 60 days, these messages are purged. If you have the appropriate role and do not have these files available for download within 48 hours, please contact MeF Mailbox with the Company Name, ETIN, and schema package(s) with the tax year needed.

Changes in the Form 1040 Series Business Rules and Schema

It’s important to note that if only minor changes occur, Software Developers are not required to use the new version. However, if the major number changes, all software must reflect the new version.

Stay updated and ensure you’re using the most recent versions of the Form 1040 Series Business Rules and Schema to maintain compliance with IRS guidelines.
